Did You Know...

If you are a sports fan and are looking to find a score for a particular game, did you know that you can type the teams' name in Google and get the latest score? You can also get the score while the game is in progress.

Here's what Google has today for the New Orleans Saints, who played today and for Manchester United who did not:

Last game: Dec 26, Stoke City 0 - 1 Manchester United
Next game: vs. Middlesbrough, Dec 29 3:00pm ET

Carolina Panthers 33 - New Orleans Saints 31

If it's Saturday, It's Got To Be College Football

UT is playing Saturday at 1:00 with a 3 - 6 record and it's their Homecoming game.

Being on campus during Homecoming Week is a fun time whether you enjoy sports or not and I didn't care for football at all in college but when I lived in the dorms, it was lots of parties and fun everywhere you looked.

Goodbye, Coach Fulmer

He'll finish out the season and we will have a new coach in the fall at UT, the University of Tennessee. College football's been painful to watch this year. link

The Tennessee Titans (NFL team) are the only undefeated team in the league and there is college and NBA basketball to look forward to as well as both are just getting underway.

Boston Comeback

Boston Red Sox made a huge comeback last night after being down 7 - 0 late in the game. People had been leaving the stadium and who could blame them?

A miracle happened, started by David Ortiz, aka "Big Poppy", who had a home run and before it was all over, Boston had scored 8 runs to win 8 - 7.

They are still playing a 4 wins out of 7 series for the chance to play in the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Boston has won 2 games; Rays have won 3.

Stay tuned Saturday afternoon to see if Boston can tie up the series or if the Rays go on to the World Series.

Karen is also rooting for Boston.

UT is playing Mississippi State Saturday @ 7:00 PM in Knoxville, TN.

Go Big Orange!

...please?

UT (unrated) is playing University of Georgia (10) today. As I watch Tennessee trail 13-0 I see Shirl's team is winning here in their 2nd quarter.

Any Sports Fans?

NFL - Lots of good sports games happening over the weekend. NFL saw pull off a great 4th quarter win and the Tennessee Titans are still looking good. The Dallas Cowboys had a predictable win. Who doesn't love to watch TO and the other TE's in action with Romo?

MLB - Baseball's last days are keeping my Mother busy and me busy finding the right time and tv stations for her.

NCAA (College) - Tennessee's football team sucks this year after losing so many good players for various reasons.

But what I'm looking forward to is:

NBA!! Basketball Season. Soon!

UT, You Let Me Down Today!

What a terrible football game today. =( Tennessee got slammed by the University of Florida (Gators). 34- 6, I think it was. Fumbles, interceptions, just a real messy game.

Fall Is For Football

Checking out other football scores today I just noticed Shirl's MSU playing MICHIGAN! Ut-oh. I'll definitely keep an eye on that game. UT (University of Tennessee) is playing Louisiana-Lafayette at 4:00 for their homecoming. It's not televised around my area so I have a radio to listen to.

Anybody else got a favorite team playing this weekend?

UT Football

The University of Tennessee Volunteers are playing University of Georgia Bulldogs. UT is unrated out of the top 25 and Georgia is rated #12.

At the moment, UT is ahead 28 - 0 and it's not even half-time yet! Woo-hoo! UT is currently 2 - 2, Georgia 4 - 1.

It's so much more fun when your team is winning and I hope they can maintain this lead, too. How'd your team do this weekend?

Weekend Football

I was also delighted to see ASU beat Michigan. I believe everyone south of the Mason-Dixon line is too. Marie, from Blue Ridge Blog fame, is a big Appalachian State University fan. That's "App-a-latch-un" to the uninitiated. Many of us bloggers have a favorite team. Shirl cheers on Michigan State University. Julie has a favorite team (St Kentucky Fried Chicken-- just kidding, Julie) over in Australia. And I'm interested in Duke basketball and University of Tennessee football most of all.

**Baby news: Well, there is none. Yet. 7 more days to go until her due date, September 10. As you may know, anyone this close is mostly miserable, can't get comfortable, and can't sleep well and want it over with but are still so excited and giddy they're practically floating. So we wait with major anticipation for baby Phoenix to arrive.

Colts Win!

Congratulations, Colts! That was a good Superbowl game last night. I was in Tennessee watching it with Mother. All of Tennessee was pulling for Peyton Manning and the Colts. (He played college football at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville)

With both my parents being avid sports fans, it was hard not to get swept up in the fun. I have great memories of family events where we watched a game on tv or were fortunate to attend.

* I do believe it is one of the most glorious days I've seen in a l-o-n-g time. The back yard is aglow in about 5 80+ year old maples that are in full golden regalia. They're the first ones out of the pack in the fall leaf backyard parade. They're somewhat citrus-y in lemon and lime shades and still mostly hydrated, although there is a crunchy blanket of them underfoot. I remember when Robin and I used to build tunnels out of the leaves and cried when they got raked up.

* Mother and I are gearing up for the UT-Alabama football game at 3:30. She and Daddy always had season tickets and she was telling me how before home games the football players walk from the school to the stadium in dress clothes and everyone cheers them along the way. They had the best time and truly made an event out of Fall Saturdays together.

* Later, lovelies!

I've been tagged by Shirl to CONFESS: Yikes!!

#1 - I confess that I'm still in drug and alcohol recovery and I see a counselor once a week.

#2 - I confess that I am sports nut. Love UT (University of Tennessee-home of Peyton Manning) football, and Duke and NBA basketball most of all.

#3 - I confess that I pretty much follow that Holiday Diet I posted. Really could lose a little, or perhaps a lot of weight.

#4 - Ooooo, everything that comes to mind I need to take the fifth on. They may get me in trouble.

Intrigued?

October is cool. I like the way she looks. With her big fat O in the beginning and the right amount of letters tagging along behind. Like mother O and her babies c,t,o,b,e,r.

October is the best month of all. My Mother and Father and I are all born in October and that alone was cause for the whole month to be celebratory.

October is cramming more outdoor activities into your days and nights before the frost sets in. Football games, hiking, outdoor concerts and cafes and anything else that good friends and a beverage of your choice would compliment nicely. Time to unpack your comfort clothes. Flannel and corduroy, your quilts and sweaters, your gloves, hats and boots.

It's no longer April. June and July are but a memory and now it's time to honor the October of my life.

Daughter dear is still asleep. She went to a football game last night with friends and was home by 11. Hubby and I were discussing decadent pastries and breads and he decided to go to the bakery on Main Street and see what they have good this morning. Since moving to Hendersonville, we really enjoy the quaint Main Street vibe here. Literally. It has a thriving night life with several outdoor cafes and a few little clubs that have live music so it's always lively. The old bakery has an old wooden plank floor and is a small, shotgun style building. I'll have to look for some photos of our little Main Street. Can't wait to see what hubby comes home with.

UPDATE - 10.42am
Hubby came home with a box of goodies. I'm more of a plain jane when it comes to food where he loves all the fruits and frills and extra flavors, etc. He brought home key lime cookies, wedding tea cakes, coconut squares, lemon bars, date bars, bear claws....that's all I believe. I'm eating a coconut square and it's SO rich, I can't tell you how rich it is. I could only eat half of it. Maybe have the other half tonight. Excuse me while I drift off into sugar shock......mmmmmmmmmmm

I Hear Your Story; I Feel Your Pain
When the initial outcry against going to war in Iraq came forth, did the supporters really know how far reaching a war becomes? Today, Paul Johnson. How much more do we endure? If it chills me to my soul, how steeped in sorrow is his family?

And Nick Berg. And a prison guard with leash and collar on an inmate; who knows how many other indignities were suffered. And rows of flag-draped caskets we weren't supposed to see. Former football player, Pat Tillman. Those four contractors left on the bridge. Daniel Pearl. Journalists couldn't ignore these atrocities. Too bad we can't give face time to all the war dead, wounded and lost. Too bad we even consider it. What is it, 600 dead? 700 dead now? Let's zip through a modicum of respect via the media, then we can resume rah-rahing the economy, or bashing anyone who's not following the party line. But try not to forget that when you see Paul Johnson's family ripe with grief, and as sad as it is, those other 600 or 700 have thousands of tear-stained family members still grieving for their collective loss.

I imagine Casualty #305's wife has been in the fetal position since March. So grief-striken, she's been hospitalized and force-fed with iv's to keep her alive.
I imagine Casualty #612 - A sister sleeps in her car outside the cemetary in Iraq where her brother's remains are buried. The groundskeeper keeps a watchful eye on her for her family.
I imagine Casualty #183 - A teenage son has survived two suicide attempts. He wants to join his slain soldier father in heaven long before his time.

Fiction imaginings, but the probabilities abound. Each war victim has a story. Try to hear it if you can.

My Saturday
We stayed in yesterday and last night, with the exception of taking Sky and her best bud, Jess, to the mall for awhile. Jess spent the night and they're still sleeping, Don't know how long they were up. It's a blast to watch those two interact. It's easy to see what makes Skyler fun to be around. She'a always the life of the party and keeps everyone going. It's like it's her mission.

I watched basketball yesterday on ESPN. Duke played Georgia Tech and Tech was tough early on, but Duke prevailed and won by about 8 pts, I believe. I think they're 16 - 1 now. Then I watched Michigan State University, play Indiana. Shirl went to MSU and has gotten me interested in them. They've had one of the hardest schedules in NCAA so far, but they ended up beating Indiana by about a dozen points. They were celebrating 25 years of ESPN, so they dressed up like it was 1979...afro wigs and wide ties, etc. MSU must have been a great place to be yesterday, and I look for them to be a vital part of the playoffs again this year. Today we have football, or Super Bowl. I don't watch football as much as I do basketball, but will root for the Panthers. To think they were 1 - 15 two years ago, got a new coach and have turned it around to be in the Super Bowl this year is already a great feat. I'll also be tuning into CNN at 8:10 and 8:35 to watch the ad that CBS won't show.

J-Mo posted this Scrabble link today. Someone. Make. It. Stop.
