Snowing Today

My back patio and yard. My yard has so many trees that snow has a hard time getting in but you can see that the golf course below the yard is already white.

From the driveway you can see the snow has begun and this is what I have so far at 3:30 PM. Whee! Hope we get more.

Dusting of Snow in East Tennessee

Much of our snow comes from the Great Lakes' lake effect deal but most of the time we just get the end of the storm or it misses us altogether.

We missed a major snow storm last night by the change of wind direction and this dusting is all we're getting.

But here it is in January and I am longing for a good snow! Sigh...

Out my window this morning. It's still spitting snow but hasn't been sticking to the roads. Kids are trying to ride sleds but it's not working out very well. =)

Light Snow

We are having light snow right now and snow is in the forecast today and every day and night (for the next 5 days) through Tuesday. But it's a mixed bag of snow turning to rain; freezing rain, and minimal accumulations. What a great opportunity for a big fluffy snow... only it doesn't look like we're getting a big fluffy one. Darn.

Snowflakes

Hello beautiful people. I've been watching the snow flurries coming down around me today. We've not had a measureable snowfall yet this winter and soon it will be February. We DID experience the Blizzard of 1996, I believe it was, in April so there's still time for my neighborhood to be blanketed in snow.

Minimal amounts of snow are in the forecast for the next couple of days. And next week, the possibility of more substantial snowfall.

I'll bet some of you are absolutely over the snow this season. And some of you on the other side of the planet just might welcome some snow to cool off with.

Well, my Skyler is back home which is great news! She's not sure what her next move will be, but at least she's not going to move to St Louis, MO. She had an excellent job offer while she was gone.

Do you have a favorite morning drive radio program you listen to on the way to work? I listen to Bob & Sheri which is also in a lot of cities now around the country. They're a fun couple and they became part of my routine years ago. She's written a few books which are pretty funny.

I digress. I just drove over the mountain from NC to TN on the edge of a major snow storm. When I say "mountain", I'm talking about the mountain that's part of the range that has the highest peak this side of the Mississippi River. I travel back and forth from NC to TN a LOT. Asheville is called the Land Of The Sky because of it being a mile high or so. Mother is about 30 miles from the state line in Tennessee and my house with Skyler and hubby is about 30 miles from the state line in NC. The state line is a mountain range that finally has an interstate straight through it now after 30 years of building and blasting through the mountains. With lots of time in court about the deets.

Wow, I sure can ramble, can't I? Well, I decided to make this Susan*Jayne website totally LIVE and off the cuff. No rough drafts, just wild keystrokes slapping out something tedious and tantalizing.

We have about 4 inches of snow and it's so beautiful in the trees. Buddy has enjoyed diving into it nose first and it's always a joy to watch a dog play in the snow.

The Duke basketball game with Maryland yesterday was great. I'll really miss watching these guys when they graduate and head off to places unknown. March Madness will be here before you know it.

"Hi, Susan." "This is a voice from out of your past calling." At the family home in Tennessee, these calls are quite frequent since we've had the same phone number all these 30+ years.

Time to get the chicken out of the oven. I'm cutting it up for Chicken Caesar Salad. Making it the quick way today with a bottle of caesar dressing and a bag of cut up salad mixings. Stir in the chopped chicken meat to the salad and call it dinner. Sprinkle on some feta if ya got it for extra yumness.

Been such a slacker and haven't visited anyone this week. Will try to do better this week. :P

Looks like we have another snow/rain storm heading our way in 24-48 hours. It's an absolutely grey day today and this old crone's bones are aching, which is usually a sign of 100% humidity on the horizon. Bursitis, arthritis. It appears to run in your family. And you don't have to be old to be afflicted. My first experience with joint pain came when I was 26 years old.

Where'd that snow storm go? I had an early appointment in the city and got a hotel room with other friends so I could assure a safe arrival because of the snow storm we were expecting. We were to get 6-12 inches between 3 and 6am. When I got up at 6, we had about 2 inches and traffic was breezing along nicely. After the appt, we went to Bruegger's Bagels and indulged our caffeine and sugar fixes. So I've not been to sleep yet, but I wanted to unwind a moment online and then I'm putting it to bed. Right after I visit a couple of blogs....just a few. Then. I. will. sleep......

There's snow as far as the eye can see this morning. I love snow...until I need to drive someplace. Luckily I'm two blocks from an Exxon convenience store so I can walk.

Blue and Black

Now it's beginning to feel like Winter time. On with the snow---but snow, stay off the streets, please. Now that's a tall order.

Sky, going on 16, bundled up this morning for school; all in black, of course. She's excited this week to show off her new Christmas duds and accessories. And her newly dyed black hair. I mean blue-black hair. It's dark dark brown anyway, so not a huge change. Two of her friends also dyed their hair the same color. She's still in her "Goth" stage. Big brother John went through it, too, when he was that age. She's keeping a blog on LiveJournal now. It's pretty raw, but I'm glad she's able to express herself and it helps me to see how she really feels. No matter how cool a parent you may think you are or say you'll be someday, the fact remains that there's a generation between you and nothing will ever change that. Not just in age, but in attitude, lifestyle...everything. Some days she's just going to hate me just for being Mom. But this too, shall pass, so I tell myself. I'm enjoying her all I can and tell her how much I love her unconditionally and how special she is to me, even to the point of embarassment. She'll be grown and probably on her own in a few short years.

Birds are flittering all around; squirrels are scampering at the base of trees; looking for any morsels to score. They know when storms are coming and they don't even have cable.

Snow Days
We don't get an awful lot of snow here in North Carolina. We certainly get snow each year, and experienceda blizzard of four feet in April 1993. But we don't get it like our friends up north get snow. I wonder what it's like to have to deal with heavy snow all the winter long. You're probably prepared for it better than us southerners. With the road departments scraping constantly. We don't have the resources to purchase a lot of this type of equipment, since we may only have a dozen snows all season. And sometimes, we run out of sand, or chat, salt, or other items used to melt or remove snow. That's when it comes to a stand-still around here. And no one can get anywhere because the roads are as bad as the yards. Further down south, I've seen people pull their car over off the interstate and leave it there. Then phone for a ride home. You'll see 100's of cars parked in all typed of positions down the major highways. Now that's a little extreme. I love snow and I'm looking forward to those first flakes of the season.

Does Anyone Use WeatherBug?
Weatherbug.com is a handy little program you can check into occasionally or keeping running in your system tray. It will alert you of any weather alerts that may be affecting your areas. There will be several live web cams from your location to view, regional radar screens. We use it where I work and I use it at home, too, and I think it's a handy little tool. The download will ask you about your preference of a product, but it's only because they'll run a banner ad about it, so it's ok. I really rely on this thing when there's heavy storms moving in [like now], and when there is snow looming on the horizon. The live shots are really helpful because you can check them out for all areas. It's only for the US, though.
