Winter Pansies

Our days are getting shorter, and the sun's highest point in the sky isn't as high as it used to be. It's time to take action, and provide ourselves with some winter cheer that starts now, in fall.

It's time for winter pansies.

Winter pansies aka viola, are hardier than regular bedding pansies, tolerating more winter cold and summer heat. They can be grown well in Zones 4 - 9.

I hope it's not to late to plant some of these. I've never tried these before and I may just put them in concrete urns on the front porch. I also want to buy an amaryllis for indoors. Anyone have any luck growing something in winter?

My mum has lots of pansies, all in pots of one sort or another. Great for adding colour around the place! :)

PS. Re your comment on my guitars on flickr. I have the two and play them rarely. Like you, I should get them out more often. I have a Peavey amp to go with the Ibanez.
These days I find I tend to pick up the camera instead.

I think this is the first fall I haven't put out pansies. Time got by me!
