Oh, my goodness. Skyler (my 16 year old daughter), has a Mohawk. She went to a salon after school Wednesday and got herself a righteous Mohawk. With her own money. Did I say she has an afterschool job now? It's maybe 1/16th of an inch of hair on the side and the top is about 3 inches long. Her bangs were blond with blackish brown hair, so it's two-toned. Unless she uses the gel she also bought. One is deep purple and the other is blue and glows in the dark.
Sigh.....she is her Mother's daughter. People stared at me wherever I went, too, because of my wild bushy Robert Plant-like hair and long skirts, boots, tons of jewelry, etc. I was shocked to see it because I didn't know she was going to do it. But it's just hair and it's brave of her and of that I'm proud. I can recall a time when she was younger and she would dress all funky on the weekends and after school and I would ask her why she didn't do that at school. And she said she didn't like to draw attention and stand out. Well, it's safe to say that's no longer a problem. Our little girl is no longer shy.
But her Dad's reaction surprised us both. He was angry with her and told her he didn't like it. He doesn't think it's flattering he said. He grounded her. I was hoping to post a picture she and her friends had taken, but I don't have it yet.
I have a feeling this roller coaster ride is just beginning. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

It is good she's not afraid to experiment and try to figure out who she is. Not many people can do that!! I'm sure she'll come into her own.
*HUGS*
hey, good for you ... and her! i love to hear abour personal expression. and, glad to hear you're congenial. i understand the dad bit, mine was never too excited about my try-its.
i wasn't nearly as comfortable with the try-its until i left for college. then it was piercings, weird hair, alternative friends and funky clothing.
it must run in the family ... my 13 y/o brother just dyed his hair leprechaun green (w/ the help of my 19 y/o brother who's ear i pierced when he was 8).
enjoyable post. :)
Yippie! Another generation of scrappy women. I love it!
