How much would it suck to page an almost 16 year old girl?
Shirl had mentioned a crowded family event and how their cell phones helped keep track of one another. It's the handiest thing for a Mother and child, too. When Skyler and I are in the mall or some event, it's so much easier since we both have cell phones now.
Instead of going over the drill of where we'd meet if separated while we're finding a parking spot, and reiterating the procedure while walking inside, we now make sure we're powered up (check) and powered on (check). It really buys some peace of mind for everyone.
She always got lost as a child in a Wal-Mart or even the grocery store. And a super busy Toys-R-Us once. When your young child and you get separated, Mom gets very frantic, so does sweet child, who does well to hold back the tears.
First you roam around the perimeter, hoping for a glimpse of said child. Then advance to the favorite hot spots she's likely to visit. If still no sighting, you saunter to the Customer Service Desk. With desperation and slight embarrassment in your voice, you give the clerk your child's name and ask them to page her.
"Skyler, your Mother is waiting for you at the Front Desk. Skyler, your Mother is waiting for you at the Front Desk. Not too cool for an almost 16 year old girl to experience. She'd disown me for sure!
