How about a quiz?
Okay... place these names in order of their age-- youngest to oldest, oldest to youngest.
Skyler
Hattie
Susan
Jayne
Phoenix
It's pretty much a slam dunk, right? Isn't it funny how names become generational. For instance, you wouldn't see a baby born today named Susan or see an elderly lady named Phoenix, etc.
I'll place the names in their proper order:
Hattie: my grandmother
Jayne: my mother, also my middle name
Susan: moi
Skyler: my daughter
Phoenix: Skyler's son
Does your family tree come out the same way?

What a great morning! Nice and cool outdoors. It was 48ยบ. I got up and closed my bedroom window, put on my sweats, heated water for tea and took the dog out with me to get the morning paper.
I even got to haul out my favorite hat that I wear indoors in cooler weather. My family is so sick of this hat, but I adore it, even though it might look a wee bit goofy it's comfy and warm. Okay. Gotta run. Will visit with you guys later.

Love and Hope
Oh, baby boy... what a joy.
I drove over the (NC) mountain this morning and had breakfast with Skyler and Phoenix at Denny's. Phoenix's carrier fitted nicely into the high chair device that they had there. Of course, his bottom didn't linger in it very long before he began squirming and wet his diaper and got hungry.
Skyler (amidst her ADD and all) was very prepared with a bottle full of expressed Mommy's milk ready for him so she fed him and then whisked him off to the changing table in the ladie's room to freshen him up. She had Daddy go to WalMart at 5:00 am the other morning for a breast pump.
It is a pure joy to see the world through her new Mother eyes. Everybody offers the baby and Mother a smile or comment. I told her that she now belonged to a very special club where membership has its privileges -- The Mother's Club.
A baby will invite total strangers to start a conversation with you. We find it so much easier to talk to someone with a baby. I wish we could always feel so at ease to strike up conversations with strangers on the street.
A baby gives you hope. A baby will remind us that sometimes through the miasma of twisted evil in the world there are also miracles and blessings wrapped up in love and hope.

Here's Baby! My 1st Grandchild

Welcome to the world my first grandchild, Phoenix Sebastien. 7lb, 10oz @ 12:29am, 9-9-07.
His big Winnie hat on and his little hands like this made Skyler laugh and joke that Phoenix was throwing up gang signs! Hardly.
Skyler went into the hospital Saturday around 1pm and had him early Sunday morning and they came home from the hospital Monday afternoon. I spent 3 nights, 2 at hospital with her and baby and one at home with her and baby and left Tuesday morning when they were both napping. She's breast-feeding and I could not be more proud of her.
She, who will freak out when she gets a bee sting, delivered this baby after half of her epidural wore off and everyone was waiting on the doc to come and fix it before baby came out, but the doc didn't show up until she had pushed baby out. So she just looked at the delivery doctor and said, where is he? She said, his head needs another inch to be all the way out. Skyler waited for the next contraction and bared down, grunting, sort of directing her delivery. Wow, I was SO impressed. I was sitting by her left side, but she wouldn't let me touch her so we had eye contact and I talked to her and told her to listen to her body, (something I always say) and to do what feels naturally.
I believe he's the most beautiful baby I've ever seen. Big beautiful lips-- large, dark blue eyes and everything he does is adorable. Long fingers that Granddaddy is likely to wrap around a blues guitar one day. I can think of nothing but him and keep replaying the weekend over in my mind. I have a lot of pictures in my cell phone and keep looking at them. I'm going over in the morning to take Skyler and baby to his first checkup. I miss them both already.
Grandmother, Grandmama, Big Momma, hell, just whatever Phoenix wants to call me
It has been SUCH a pure joy to share this event with you. You know who you are. This website address is only given out to the people I have the closest connection with-- my friends.

By The Time I Get To Phoenix
Skyler is having contractions this morning. When they're closer together she'll go to the hospital. :)
After I run some quick errands I'll join her there.
Sure hope everything goes well. The first born babies usually take their time coming into the world so it may be 10-20 hours longer before he gets here.
**UPDATE, 2:27 PM: False alarm. They sent her back home after a checkup. So we wait some more...! At least I'm packed and the car is ready to go. (60 miles away)

What Book Are You?

You're Watership Down!
by Richard Adams
Though many think of you as a bit young, even childish, you're actually incredibly deep and complex. You show people the need to rethink their assumptions, and confront them on everything from how they think to where they build their houses. You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You'd be recognized as such if you weren't always talking about talking rabbits.
Take the Book Quiz at the Blue Pyramid.
Young and childish? Check and check. Always talking about rabbits? Hmmm, not so much.

a quick update
Okay, a quick update about my baby girl and her pregnancy. I went with her to the doctor today and she talked to them about her birthing plan: breastfeeding, doesn't want to do natural childbirth. Her due date is 4 days away on the 10th.
The doctor "stripped her membranes" which moved her baby opening from one centimeter to two centimeters---10 is the highest and where it should be when baby arrives. This sometimes brings on the labor process.
Her blood pressure was up a little so she goes back in two days so they can monitor that. If the baby doesn't come before her last scheduled OB/GYN appt, Sept 13, she'll probably be induced then. And the due date is the 10th.
So baby boy will be here in the next week I guess. It really flew by fast and now I'm hoping for a safe delivery for baby and Skyler.

Boat Dreams
Is everyone back in the groove yet from the weekend? I was especially happy to have spent time with my favorite cousins and it just meant the world to me to see the two of them. We reminisced about childhood memories that usually involved tricking our parents somehow. We spoke of those family members that have passed on, the trials of those still with us, and children and grandchildren and pets and laughed mostly.
We grew up together from the time we were born until I was about 10. There were two houses on the same piece of property that both our families lived on. We later moved, and still visited each Christmas and took trips together and we stayed at Boone Lake on our boathouse.
That boathouse sure was some great fun. I recall when that big old monstrosity was built on our property and thinking how tall it looked, not realizing there's a lot of it that goes under water. If I ever get the chance to buy a houseboat I just may do it and live out my days on some beautiful lake. Watauga Lake in East Tennessee is downright magical.
Do you have a dream scenario on how to live out your days? Hubby would like to sail around the world so we both have "boat" dreams.
Separate dreams. Separate lives.

Weekend Football
I was also delighted to see ASU beat Michigan. I believe everyone south of the Mason-Dixon line is too. Marie, from Blue Ridge Blog fame, is a big Appalachian State University fan. That's "App-a-latch-un" to the uninitiated. Many of us bloggers have a favorite team. Shirl cheers on Michigan State University. Julie has a favorite team (St Kentucky Fried Chicken-- just kidding, Julie) over in Australia. And I'm interested in Duke basketball and University of Tennessee football most of all.
**Baby news: Well, there is none. Yet. 7 more days to go until her due date, September 10. As you may know, anyone this close is mostly miserable, can't get comfortable, and can't sleep well and want it over with but are still so excited and giddy they're practically floating. So we wait with major anticipation for baby Phoenix to arrive.

Is It Autumn Yet?

It needs a little tweaking but I put out a FALL wreath today. I'm sending a message to the season gods/goddesses that I am through with Summer with the heat waves we've had the past several weeks.
