Hummers Still Coming

We still have hummingbirds coming to feed. I'm not sure what stage of their migration that they are in. I saw 5 yesterday at early light. The wasps are coming around, too. The hummers won't drink if there is a bee there so they fly off and try again later.

The bee's technique is different from the hummingbirds. They immerse half of their body into the drinking hole and stay in that position and drink what seems like hours. Too much of a good thing can be dangerous for the bees. When I clean the feeders, bee parts will also pour out with the last bit of sugar water. I don't know if they drown or get inebriated.

Whew!

Each year I try to conserve energy a little more and I confess: I am an air-conditioned junkie. My Dad had a bad reaction to penicillin once and later swore that being able to stand in front of the air conditioner and getting that air on him helped to save his life. I don't know about that, but he made sure we all had it quite cool all the time and even after we'd left home.

Back to why I'm posting... This summer I've kept my cooling system on a balmy 78° when I turn it on. I'm just amazed that I can tolerate that high of a temperature now after years of living in virtual iceboxes. (Go me!)

Conditioning. One degree at a time.

See it? Over there... on the left. I've added a new widget to the sidebar and thought some of you might be interested in it, too.

I ran across a blog called Beta Blogger For Dummies (new Blogger) and found this nice Recent Comments widget. You know it's simple to add on to your template if I can do it.

Blue Butterfly

Shirl had a post about the Monarch butterfly the other day and said that only they live 2-4 weeks in the butterfly stage. I'll never look at a butterfly again without thinking about their precarious lifespan.

Today and yesterday I've been visited by a beautiful black and blue butterfly. It's large and mostly black with a soft blue color on the bottom third of its wings. It put on a show for me by walking in a circle then flapping its wings up and down. Turn around half circle to the left this time, up and down with the wings. "Yes, I see you, blue butterfly, and am honored that you stopped by."

Back again on the porch this morning as I opened the door to let Buddy out. Then she was off to see the flowers nearby.

I've looked at butterfly images and can't seem to find one like this little guy.

Chicken Caesar Salad

I just fixed one of my favorite dinners and placed it into the refrigerator to serve later. I used to make this from scratch, but now I usually take a shortcut. This can feed 4 or because of the packaged ingredients can easily serve one.

Chicken Caesar Salad

1. One bag of baby romaine lettuce, or prepackaged Caesar salad, or mixed greens
2. Bottle of Caesar's salad dressing
3. Precooked chicken, grilled breast meat-- located in the meat case, beside the usual chicken parts

Chicken heats up in 45 seconds, add it to a large bowl of your greens and pour the salad dressing over it. Top with croûtons and dig in.

Variations: Add croûtons, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top, serve with crackers and cheese. Serve as introductory course or as a main meal. Or even brown bag it to work.

Hello Saturday!

I do believe I'll live after all but this hellacious cold shook me up pretty good. Being a heavy smoker lets colds and respiratory ailments last much longer. Reason #49863452 to quit smoking, I know.

Does anyone here ever color their hair? You don't know what I'm talking about, right? Ha! I only have about 20% grey hair and if it were 2/3 grey or more, I'd probably just let it be. But it's not; so we dye. I'm a natural mossy brown with red tones (shhhhh!) but I could exaggerate and call it "auburn". I've been blonde for decades and try to go back to reddish-brown every 5 years or so and end up going right back to blonde. So, this week I'm putting on a strawberry blonde and in about 6 weeks, I'll put on a deeper auburn.

Skyler (36 weeks) is still plugging right along. The baby is head downward and kicks her ribs really good. Her belly now looks like an ocean with waves crashing all over. The baby wiggling, twisting and stretching-- checking out his boundaries. Please do what you do best and send good vibes or peace or prayers for an safe and healthy delivery for her and her baby boy.

Templates, and South Park, and Wills, Oh My!

I've been fooling around with my template again. I've always liked the 3-column template and thought I'd take it for a drive, kick the tires, etc.

I just talked to my sweet daughter and we watched South Park together via telephone. She loves, loves, loves to talk on the phone and I'm grateful for that. We talk about 3 times a day on the phone and we text or im each other, too. Soon she'll have her hands full and these long, leisurely conversations will become much shorter.

***Oh,oh,oh... next post will be about an envelope out of the blue from a bank concerning a long lost aunt who recently passed away. STAY TUNED

I Can See Clearly Now

After reading about Julie's eyesight I started thinking about glasses and just how many of us over 40 gals wear them. And when did we first have to get our glasses/contacts? Has anyone gotten laser surgery?

I was 40 when I got my first pair of glasses. Bifocals. A few years later I got different frames, same eyesight prescription. My eyesight changed again at age 49 and I upgraded my lenses. Now at almost 55 I just may need them changed again.

(cough) "See" ya later, lovelies!

Touch Base

Just a quick hello and return post. I've had the computer in the shop after lightning struck in our yard last week.

Now I have an evil cold or flu virus and feel yucky. What else... Skyler is still chugging along at 35 weeks. She is so ready for the baby to arrive. Like yesterday. I spoke to her yesterday and she was sitting in the baby's room in her rocking chair. Everything is ready except him! Both great grandmothers are asking, "are you sure you want to call him Phoenix, sweetie?" She does.

Can't wait to blog visit and see what is new with everyone.

Smoochies all around xoxo
