Mammograms

Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, but there is no need to worry. By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the exam and doing the following exercises, you will be totally prepared for the test and best of all, you can do these simple exercises right in and around your home.

EXERCISE ONE:

Open your refrigerator door and insert one breast in door. Shut the door as hard as possible and lean on the door for good measure.

Hold that position for five seconds. Repeat again in case the first time wasn't effective enough.

EXERCISE TWO:

Visit your garage at 3AM when the temperature of the cement floor is just perfect. Take off all your clothes and lie comfortably on the floor with one breast wedged under the rear tire of the car. Ask a friend to slowly back the car up until your breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled. Turn over and repeat with the other breast.

EXERCISE THREE:

Freeze two metal bookends overnight. Strip to the waist. Invite a stranger into the room. Press the bookends against one of your breasts.

Smash the bookends together as hard as you can. Set up an appointment with the stranger to meet next year and do it again.

Great! Now You Are Totally Prepared!

Mother Is Healing

Whew! I thought today would never get here. I'm sure she did, too.

I took Mother to the doctor and they put her on strong antibiotics and pain pills. When the antibiotics get in her system she will be much better. Poor thing hasn't slept much at all this past week. She never did want me to take her to the ER, much less call the squad.

Nurses and doctors are a little funny about this kind of stuff at times. I've seen them embarassed to admit that they "let" something happen to themselves.

And can you believe $93.17 for 7 antibiotics?!! That's just downright criminal.

Friday Inventory

Hello sweetpeas! Hope you are enjoying your Friday! I just got home from grocery shopping, etc. I picked up some lunch and am munching on it now. It's a nice afternoon here in East Tennessee. It's 45ยบ, clear skies and windy.

Mother hasn't felt very well this week. So I made an appt for her and the quickest I could get is for next Tuesday, Feb 27.

It's just us girls here, isn't it? Okay. Apparently, when you get older, your female parts drop from gravity, causing incontinence and pain. The incontinence has been ongoing; the pain is new. She asked me this week to take over paying the household bills and I kept her checkbook balanced. I thought she had been doing fine with it. Giving up your independence is hard for the elderly. It's hard for anyone. She never will tell you when she doesn't feel well. You have to guess and figure it out. She's never been a complainer at all But when I saw her in the middle of the night sitting on the couch holding her belly and crying I knew we had to get her checked asap. I hope she can hang until Tuesday. I'll be surprised if she does and may end up taking her to the ER if she keeps hurting this weekend.

So that's my update. Time to walk the dogs.

Free Hosting @ Blogger!

From the: 'Ask And You Shall Receive' Files...

Did you know that Blogger/Google will actually host your blog for FREE now? This is for those who either have their own domain name or wish to get one and get online inexpensively.

I just read about it on Blogger.com and will be making the change soon myself. All you have to do is decide on a domain name, buy the domain name and Blogger will walk you through the rest. Go to Go Daddy (I've used it for 4 years now) or some other registrar and get a website name.

For my domain name, easybakecoven.net, I pay $8.95 a year to GoDaddy. Then you had to find a HOST, (until this news from Blogger,) to make the website come together. I'm currently using your-site.com, which costs $60 a year. That's $60 I don't have to be spending if Blogger will do it for FREE.

This is the deal of the day. And then some. Pick out a domain name, register it, and let Blogger take it from there.

The Number You Have Dialed

I was just recalling something I can now look back on and if not laugh at, I certainly find it oddly amusing...

Before Robin passed away (Nov 2005), Mother's telephone had an answering machine message on it with Robin's voice speaking. After she died, it never occurred to Mother or I to change the message or remove it! It was probably 6 months later that we came up from our clouded funk and unplugged the answering machine altogether. Looking back it must have been extra sad for others to call in and hear that message, but I'd like to think that Robin was laughing at me for being such an idiot. =)

(Numbers on this post; numbers on the last post-- Searching for the synchronicity these numbers are leading me to.)

**I just discovered that my host, Your-Site.com is down, which affects Easy Bake Coven. I guess you get what you pay for. They're very affordable; $18.00 per quarter or $60 a year. Anybody know of another host I could look into? A referral will help both of us!

Number, Please?

It's nice when you get another cellphone (this is my fourth one), but such a hassle to put in all the phone numbers. So that's pretty much what I've been doing most of the morning.

How is your Friday?

GRANDMOTHER ME

I have some of the best news of all time. I want to share this with you guys here at Susan*Jayne.

I'm going to be a first time grandmother! My sweet daughter, Skyler, is having a baby and we couldn't be more thrilled. (She is almost past the first trimester.)

When I first heard about it I'm sure I looked like someone had asked me the square root of 847. My brain circuits were smoking and gears were churning. Soon I'd have frown lines on top of my frown lines. But I certainly wasn't frowning. More like contemplating. So I have contemplation lines.

I've had time to think more about it and ideally, I wish she would have waited a little while, but I am so happy to welcome a new life into this family. Sometimes in life it seems like there are too many endings and not enough beginnings.

I'll be your Star-- you'll be my "Sky". Here's to a beautiful beginning.

Differences

I'm still in Tennessee today and Skyler is on her way over to spend the night.

Two homes. Two beds. Two lives.

Daughter at one and Mother at the other.

Different. Not bad at all. Just different.

Jack Wax

Make Jack Wax Maple Candy

Maple Syrup and snow makes a nice treat. Did you ever eat snow in a recipe?

Mother made us Snow Cream. It was snow and cream and a little sugar and was a fun treat on a snowy day.

What's That You're Wearing?

Robin left behind a lot of old colognes/perfumes. I walk by the perfume tray and I choose something for a quick trip in the way-back machine.

I bought more cologne in the 80s than in any other decade. Remember how decadent it was then? Or was that just me? Some of the most popular ones were Giorgio (I just spritzed some on that Robin had) and Gloria Vanderbilt and Halston. What else? Oh, Opium and Poison were big, too. But oh so heavy.

I like aromatic scents and oils, but j'adore cologne and bath powder and stuff, too. (I'm feeling frenchy since I spritzed on the Giorgio.)

In the early 90s Robin discovered Karl Lagerfeld's Sun Moon & Stars and I still wear the cologne and body lotion sometimes. We both liked it and I think of her when I wear it. I really love how a scent can take you back to an earlier memory. Do you think of anything when you small baby powder? Oranges? Fresh-cut grass?

The older I get the more I feel like the answer to the universe is found in our mind with sights, scents, memories, feelings etc. Certainly not in our skin suit. Did anyone see that Robin Williams movie, What Dreams May Come? I think that's what they were trying to say, or at least that's what I got from it. I haven't put it all together yet, but I think I'm on the right path. xoxo

Colts Win!

Congratulations, Colts! That was a good Superbowl game last night. I was in Tennessee watching it with Mother. All of Tennessee was pulling for Peyton Manning and the Colts. (He played college football at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville)

With both my parents being avid sports fans, it was hard not to get swept up in the fun. I have great memories of family events where we watched a game on tv or were fortunate to attend.

Good-bye Lynn

Hi dear friends. You're not my online friends. You're my friends.

So sad to lose another friend in our Lynn. So sad. Her blog is still on my blogroll. Maybe I'll take it down tomorrow.

Maybe not.

Light Snow

We are having light snow right now and snow is in the forecast today and every day and night (for the next 5 days) through Tuesday. But it's a mixed bag of snow turning to rain; freezing rain, and minimal accumulations. What a great opportunity for a big fluffy snow... only it doesn't look like we're getting a big fluffy one. Darn.
