An email I received I thought was funny.....

"My goodness, man. That sumbitch's huge!" I said as my husband handed me a muffin he brought home from the bakery.

"Maybe I could donate some of it to the local food bank or send part of it to the tsunami victims."

Who first decided muffins had to be ginormous? Well, I know what I'm having for lunch today.

His long 'stache tickled my cheek as he bent down to kiss me goodbye. He left the house this morning with a chunk of bread in his hand, still looking fine in overalls and an old cap. Sometimes I can look at him and think, 'who else would you have?' And other times I wonder if I'd miss him if he was gone.

In my twenties I told my then husband that I had imagined myself at middle age + to be sitting around the homefront, still flat picking on my old Martin, a long grey braid over my shoulder, with tons of grandchildren clinging to my skirt just like they'd do each week for Sunday dinner.

Oh, yeah, I have the greying hair and the sweet old guitar, but I'm grandchild-less. There's been no more kiddie noses to wipe and bottoms to powder and sweet cheeks to kiss in my family in some time now. My 30 year old son has never been married and has never fathered any children, and would make a fabulous Dad. He's had some great girlfriends along the way, but still hasn't produced any babies. And, of course, my dear 16 and a half year old daughter would do well NOT to make me a grandmother anytime soon.

I realize I'm blessed to have had two beautiful children, but when is it my turn to be a grandmother and enjoy the kidlets without all the guilt? I'm just wondering....

After a year of my sewing machine not working, I fixed it! I took it apart to oil it and I saw a belt had slipped off something important looking and I put it back on. Simple as that.

I just finished making a plain velvet pouch from a scrap I had (without the embroidery) and now I'm looking for some more fabric to resume my sewing and needlework addiction. With no fabric on hand, I've been known to rip up an old blouse and make placemats or something, so believe me when I tell you I have a sewing addiction. Well, more like a creative addiction, I suppose. The urge is great and the payoff is a joyous rush. And walking into a great fabric store is a sure-fire bliss enducer.

Maybe next I'll make a shawl, a skirt or a lap quilt. Possibly some more pants for Daddy-O. He likes the pants I've made for him that have an elastic waistband and pockets and enjoys wearing them around the house or to sleep in. And the funkier the fabric, the better. I'd also like to try fabric art or fabric collage, where you cut and sew pieces to make a design and you usually use it as a wall hanging. Takes some mighty fierce sewing skills to do that.
